Dr. Kyra McElroy
While earning her first master's degree, Dr. Kyra McElroy (PhD) was diagnosed with thyroid cancer which had spread to her lymph nodes. Eight years later and as a mother of two, she found out that the cancer returned and had spread to newly infected lymph nodes. Coupled with cancer, additional health challenges, and genetic diagnoses, she journeyed to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota as well as Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Her personal experience with complex illnesses and specifically cancer, led her to "seize the day" and pursue her dream of earning a doctorate in education. Kyra then decided to take her academic teaching mentality, love of research, and passion for healing, to step into a new journey. Ater teaching for two decades, Kyra left public education behind and opened a yoga studio where she practiced yoga therapy among other yoga and health modalities. She began working on a second doctorate in Acupuncture and Holistic Medicine where she planned on opening a practice geared towards supporting cancer patients. That all changed when Kyra discovered medical dermopigmentation! When she saw the immediate impact 3D areola tattooing had on breast cancer patients, she changed her professional path and travelled across the country to work with one of the top 3D areola trainers in the world. This action led to additional certifications focusing on cutting edge restorative ink practices and techniques that supported the final piece in healing for people hanging onto traumatic and/or physical insecurities.
